Currency explores money as an architecture of possibility & responsibility. In this work grant money ($20,000) from the Australian Arts funding body will be presented as an object consisting of a pile of $100 notes. The pile of notes will be auctioned through a fine art auction house as a single work of art . The serial number of each note will be recorded to promote authenticity of the material. The tension between the economic value of the material against the cultural value of the art object will be explored through the auction process. Proceeds form the auction will be used to finance a series of video works that explore capitalism and the division of labour.
