Fourteen thousand Euros was purchased from the Deutsche Bundesbank in Berlin. The new fifty Euro notes were placed in three bundles and documented.
The serial numbers of all the notes were recorded to validate their authenticity. The artwork was then released into public circulation on Monday the 29th of April 2013 through a series of bank deposits around Berlin.
In doing so the gallery system is substituted by the banking system as a way to disseminate this work to the public. Those who come into contact with the notes have the option to value them as an art object or to ignore them and treat them as legal tender.
The credit accrued from banking the Euro notes will be used to implement the Release project in other currencies. This ongoing process of exchange will continue until every currency in the world has become part of the project.
